Are you meeting the needs of the millennial families in your community? With more than a million millennials becoming mothers each year, it’s time to look at your admissions, enrollment, and retention plans.
We spoke with dozens of schools over the past several years and they agree that the below four things are some of the most important ways to meet millennial families where they are:
- Flexible open house options. Whether you choose to offer an open house via Facebook Live, open earlier or later in the day to accommodate working families, or have an open house week (rather than just one day), offering flexibility to busy families is key to getting them into your school.
- Online admissions solutions. Speaking of flexibility, it’s so important now to eliminate a paper application and take the application process and application fee submission fully online.
- Regular check-ins on review and ratings websites. Millennials rely heavily on crowd-sourced opinions to make decisions and it’s a good idea to do a periodic review of Niche, Private School Review, GreatSchools, and Facebook/Google ratings.
- Social media ambassador programs. Do your reviews and ratings look a little anemic? Recruit raving fans from your school community to post a review on the site where you need help the most. One school we work with asks a parent to submit a review when they hear positive feedback from them in an email or in person.
